Chi-Ni stats at a glance
The Chi-Ni has 304 hit points , 25mm of frontal hull armor , and a top speed of 30 km/h. Its strongest gun configuration deals 75 damage per shot with 30mm of armor penetration , giving it a theoretical maximum DPM of 1324. The vehicle can equip 3 different gun configurations, allowing for varied playstyles.
Hull & survivability
| Hit points (HP) | 304 |
|---|---|
| Weight | 4.9 t |
| Hull armor (F / S / R) | 25 / 12 / 10 mm |
The front-to-side armor ratio is 2.1:1. This pronounced angling makes the Chi-Ni significantly stronger when keeping its front facing the enemy.
Mobility
| Top forward speed | 30 km/h |
|---|---|
| Top reverse speed | 12 km/h |
Forward-to-reverse speed ratio is 2.5:1. Reverse speed is limited, so pre-aim and exposure timing matter more on this vehicle.
Camouflage
| Camo (stationary) | 28.0% |
|---|---|
| Camo (moving) | 21.0% |
Available guns (3)
| Gun | Tier | Damage | Pen | Reload | RoF |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5.7 cm Gun Type 97 | 2 | 75 | 30mm | 3.4s | 17.65 |
| 37 mm Sogekihou | 1 | 45 | 33mm | 2.3s | 26.09 |
| 13 mm Autocannon Type Ho | 1 | 8 | 23mm | 10.0s | 129.81 |
With the top-tier gun, the Chi-Ni can theoretically output up to 1324 damage per minute at sustained fire (shot damage × rounds per minute). Lower-tier guns generally trade DPM for faster reload or better handling — see the full gun table above.

About this vehicle
Developed by Osaka Artillery Arsenal as a replacement for the Type 2589. The Chi-Ni and the Chi-Ha underwent combined trials in 1937. The Chi-Ha was deemed more successful. One prototype was manufactured.
