View range

View range (in meters)

In one sentence:

How far your tank can spot enemies from a stationary position with no obstructions.

What it means

View range determines who sees whom first. The maximum spotting distance in World of Tanks is 445m — any view range above that gives diminishing returns through optics and consumables. View range is heavily modified by crew skills (Recon, Situational Awareness) and equipment (Optics, Binoculars).

Practical maximum

Practical max view range is ~480-510m with all crew skills + Optics + commander bonus. Theoretical cap of 445m is for direct line of sight; bushes and obstacles reduce significantly.

Example

A Leopard 1 with full crew skills, Optics, and Commander's Vision System reaches ~510m effective view range. An average heavy tank with stock crew sits at ~370m.

Why it matters

View range is the foundation of light tank play. A light with 500m view range can spot heavies at maximum visibility while staying invisible behind bushes. Without view range, scouting is impossible.

Common pitfall

⚠ View range is wasted on tanks with bad camo (heavies). It matters most on lights and mediums that can hide and spot.
