Commander
Tank Commander (Crew Role)
Primary crew member whose effective skill boosts every other crewman's training by 10%, and who carries the most critical perks.
What it means
The commander is the team-captain of your tank crew. Beyond his own role (improving view range when alive), his trained skill level passively boosts every other crewman by 10% — meaning a 100% commander gives his loader, gunner, and driver an effective +10% bonus to their stats. He also holds the slot for Sixth Sense and Recon, the two most impactful vision perks. Lose the commander mid-battle and your tank degrades on every axis.
Where it's located
Commander is the first crew member listed in the crew panel. On every tank he wears the cupola/turret position; some tanks have the commander double as gunner (e.g., Cromwell) or loader (rare).
Key skills to pick
Mandatory first: Sixth Sense (100% perk). Mandatory second: Recon or Brothers in Arms (skill). Tier-3 options: Eagle Eye (enemy damage info), Mentor (extra crew XP), Jack of All Trades (covers injured crew).

Why it matters
Commander training is force-multiplier training. A 100% commander makes a 75% gunner perform like an 82% gunner. This is why veteran players retrain their best 6-skill commanders into new tanks rather than starting fresh — the cascade benefit compounds.
