Premium ammo
Premium Ammunition (Gold Rounds)
Higher-penetration ammunition purchasable with credits or gold — typically APCR or HEAT — used to defeat tough armor.
What it means
Premium ammo is the in-game term for non-standard shells with substantially higher penetration than the tank's stock AP. Historically purchased with gold (hence 'gold rounds'), all premium ammo became credit-purchasable in 2010. Today, premium rounds cost 2–5× more credits per shot than standard AP — making them a tactical choice with economic consequences.
Modifiers
Premium AP variants (rare): same shell type, higher pen. Premium APCR (most common): higher pen, faster shell velocity, 2° normalization. Premium HEAT: highest pen, 0° normalization, vulnerable to spaced armor and tracks.
Typical values
Typical pen uplift: AP standard 200mm → APCR premium 250–280mm (+25–40%). HEAT premium can reach 330–340mm but loses damage to spaced armor.
Example
Why it matters
Premium ammo is the tax for engaging top-tier armor. Players who refuse to load it lose 30–40% of penetration opportunities against angled heavies — turning what should be even fights into one-sided pen lottery. The 2010 'credit unlock' for premium ammo permanently changed the meta from positioning-driven to pen-driven.
